Former Australian presenter and painter Rolf Harris has died aged 93. The British media are talking about it on Tuesday. In October last year, it was learned that Harris was suffering from head and neck cancer and could barely speak.
Harris was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison in 2014 for abusing four underage girls and a wife between 1968 and 1986. He was released from prison after three years.
Before Harris was convicted of assault, he was a popular television host for many years. After working in Australia on children’s television from 1960 to 1962, Harris settled permanently in Britain. He not only worked in television entertainment there, but also hosted a television series in Canada. He was also active as a painter.
From 1967, he presented The Rolf Harris Show, which linked music and painting. In 1969, Harris achieved great musical success with two little boys. With this, it got a number 1 hit in the UK.
Through his work on television, he became one of Britain’s best-known entertainers. In 2005 he was commissioned to paint an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth.
