Daniil Medvedev defeated Andrea Vavassori without dropping a set in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament played on clay in Madrid. Dusan Lajović has been tempted by another sensation in recent days.

Daniil Medvedev is not a fan of playing on clay, but he started the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid well. In Saturday’s game of the second round (in the first round he had a bye), the Muscovite served four aces, was not broken once, used two of the four break points and beat the qualifier 6:4, 6:3 Andrea Vavassori, Andy Murray’s sensational conqueror with the previous phase.

I felt good and I played. There were a few tense moments, but in the substantive exchanges I controlled the game. I’m happy – said Medvedev, quoted by atptour.com, who will face his compatriot, Aleksandr Shevchenko, who beat Jiri Lehecka , tournament “31”, in the third round.

Dusan Lajovic strikes again. The Serb, who last week en route to the title in Banja Luka beat m. Novak Djokovic and Andrei Rublev kicked off the Mutua Madrid Open with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5) win over No.7 Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 32-year-old Lajovic’s next rival will be Jan-Lennard Struff. The German, a ‘lucky loser’ of elimination, also faced ’32’ seed Ben Shelton in straight sets.

Number 16. Alex de Minaur didn’t drop a single serve and won 6-4, 7-6(5) over qualifier Marco Cecchinato. In the third round, the Aussie will face another knockout player, Aslan Karatsev. The 29-year-old player from Vladikavkaz turned out to be better than Botik van de Zandschulp, the “23” tournament.

Another surprise qualifier, Roman Safiullin won 6-4, 7-6(3) over 14th seed Tommy Paul. His next opponent will be Bernabe Zapata. The Spaniard beat 6-3, 6-2 scored “19” Daniel Evans.
