Sabalenka defeated. Big sensation in Montreal

Aryna Sabalenka is not going to conquer Montreal (WTA 1000)! The second in the standings was eliminated in the 1/8 finals after losing to Lyudmila Samsonowa.

Thursday in Montreal, the match of the 1/8 finals with Aryna Sabalenka (WTA 2) did not take place. The reason was delays in the match schedule caused by rain. On Friday, the vice-leader of the classification went to the court after an hour. 6:00 p.m. Polish time. She faced Lyudmila Samsonowa (WTA 18). The game ended in a surprise as Sabalenka lost 6:7(2), 6:4, 3:6.

There was no break in the first set. In the tie-break, Samsonowa scored six straight points from 1-2. In the second set, Sabalenka took away the opponent’s serve in the fifth game. She then fended off two break points to take a 4-2 lead. She didn’t give up until the end.

The third set could have started very well for Sabalenka, but in the first game she lost two break points. Later, Samsonowa dominated the field, coming back to 4:1. The second in the standings launched the assault and closed 3:4. It looked like she was going to turn the tide of the entire encounter, but she lost the next two matches. At 3:5 she had a break point, but this time she didn’t make up for losing the break. Samsonowa earned his promotion on the second match ball.

The meeting lasted two hours and 55 minutes. Sabalenka served 13 aces and committed 11 double faults. She only used two of 13 break points. Samsonowa also had two breaks, but she had six chances. She scored seven extra points (115-108) and earned her fourth victory against a Top 10 player, the first this year.

Belinda Bencic (WTA 13) defeated Petra Kvitova (WTA 9) 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-1 after two hours and 57 minutes. The Swiss made 13 double faults, but scored 50 out of 66 on her first serve. She answered 10 of 11 no points and converted five of seven breaks.

On Friday, Samsonowa and Bencic will go to court again. They will play for the quarter-finals no earlier than 01:00 Polish time.
