Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Piotr Kucherenko, died recently at the age of 47, after returning from a business trip to Cuba.
The minister reportedly fell ill on board the plane, but his life could not be saved, according to Tass.
– Kucherenko felt ill on board a plane with a Russian delegation returning from a business trip to Cuba. The plane landed in the town of Mineralnye Vody, where doctors tried to help it, the ministry said in a statement.
Russian journalist Roman Super is said to have escaped from Russia shortly after the invasion of Ukraine. Before that date, he claims to have spoken with Kucherenko, who allegedly expressed his fear for the journalist’s safety and encouraged him to leave Russia.
– Save yourself and your family. Leave as soon as possible. You cannot imagine the level of brutality in our state. In a year, you won’t recognize Russia at all. When you leave, you do the right thing, Kucherenko would have said CNN.
Super reportedly asked the minister if he also wanted to leave the country, but according to the American channel, Kucherenko replied:
“It is no longer possible. They are taking our passports. And there is no longer a world where they will be satisfied with the Russian deputy minister after this fascist invasion”.
A forensic examination of Kucherenko is expected to take place on Wednesday.
