(OSLO/NEW YORK): Air quality in the US state of New York was the worst in the world on Wednesday evening, due to wildfires in eastern Canada. It shows an overview of Swiss society IQAirAnd BNC News reports the same.
At the same time, the AFP news agency reports that 100 million American residents have been informed of the air quality following the fire.
New York health officials also released a statement on Twitter. There, Dr. James McDonald is quoted as saying the following.
– Given the increase in air pollution we are seeing across much of the state, the Health Department recommends that New Yorkers limit strenuous activities outdoors, to reduce the risk of health being affected, they write.
Governor Kathy Hochul also weighed in on the situation. In a video she shared Twittershe says:
– If you can stay inside, do so. It is harmful to people’s health. We’ve been following this for over a week when the first fires broke out in Eastern Canada.
She keeps :
– In the last 48 hours, I would say it has gotten considerably worse.
Hochul is also keen to stress the seriousness of the situation.
– You may not see it, or you may not even know it, but it affects everyone negatively. So please: Take precautions, said the governor.
