Casper Ruud defeated Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to advance to the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament on hard court in Toronto. There was a sensation in the first-round matches with the hosts’ representatives.

Due to the high number of seeds, “three”, Casper Ruud began to participate in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto from the second round. On Tuesday night, he faced Jiri Lehecka. It was not an easy game for the Norwegian, especially in the first set where he had a lot of problems, but in the end he handled all the difficulties and won 7:6(6), 6:4.

“I told myself not to let go. I was down 4-0 in the tie-break, but I kept telling myself that I would get up somehow. Tennis is sometimes a a matter of luck and this time it was on my side,” said Ruud, who had five aces, 17 knockouts and a break in 103 minutes of play.

Félix Auger-Aliassime, marked with the number ten, disappointed the local supporters. The Canadian is still in crisis and has lost his sixth fight in a row. This time he lost 4:6, 4:6 against Max Purcell. The Australian qualifier will face Andy Murray in the second round.

Another Canadian, Gabriel Diallo, was tempted by a surprise, but a positive one. The 21-year-old wild card holder beat Daniel Evans, the champion of last week’s event in Washington, 7-6(4), 7-5. As a reward, he will face Alex de Minaur in the 1/16 finals, who eliminated Cameron Norrie, from the “11” tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz, seeded, will open the 2023 National Bank Open with a match against Ben Shelton. The American on Tuesday night served five aces, earned four breaks and won 7-6(1), 6-4 against fellow Spaniard Bernabe Zapata.
