Climate activist acquitted by Supreme Court

A climate activist from the Extionction Rebellion movement has refused to accept a fine imposed on him after protesting at the reception of the Department of Health and Care.
The activist was also arrested.
The ministry’s operations were not significantly impeded or disrupted, the Supreme Court found. The activist sat peacefully on the floor in the ministry’s courtroom, part of a peaceful protest against Norwegian nature and climate policy.
The Supreme Court found that the arrest, detention for more than six hours and fines amounted to a disproportionate interference with freedom of assembly.
– This sets aside the Alta decision, lawyer John Christian Elden told TV 2.
He came to the activist’s defense and is satisfied with the verdict.
“It’s pretty comprehensive and says it’s a human right to practice civil disobedience in this way,” Elden said.
– At the same time, Norway also found that the police violated human rights by placing the activist in a smooth cell for six hours. The police had no reason for this, he adds.
