Three-stage qualifying for Wimbledon came to an end on Thursday. The places in the main bracket were won by 16 tennis players each. There were no surprises.

In the men’s tournament, the deciding qualifying round matches were played best of three sets won. The defeat of Thiago Seyboth Wild returns to the fore. The Brazilian, who at the previous Grand Slam event, Roland Garros, beat m.in. Daniil Medvedev lost 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 to Tomas Barrios Vera on Thursday.

After five-set matches, Maximilian Marterer also won promotions, winning 7-5, 6-4, 6-7(5), 5-7, 7-5 with Fabian Marozsan, Kimmer Coppejans (6 -3, 4-6, 4:6, 6:4, 6:2 with Taro Daniel) and Laurent Lokoli. The Frenchman beat Michael Mmoh 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Only four top-seeded tennis players entered the main draw – ‘number one’ Matteo Arnaldi, ‘five’ Radu Albot, ‘six’ Tomas Machac and number ten Dominic Stricker.

In the women’s tournament, the highlight of Thursday’s matches was the Americans’ duel, in which Sofia Kenin beat Taylor Townsend 6-3, 6-3. Another interesting encounter between Yanina Wickmayer and Laura Siegemund ended in the Belgian victory 6:4, 5:7, 6:3.

The highest ranked tennis player who qualified for the main group is Mirra Andreyeva. The 16-year-old sensational number seven won 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 against Tamara Korpatsch on Thursday.

The Wimbledon 2023 main draw draw will take place on Friday.
