On Wednesday night, a fire broke out on the car deck of a Fjord Line liner. The ship was en route from Hirtshals to Bergen.
– Kristiansand smoke divers boarded the fireboat to help. There are no visible flames, Andreas Ingsøy, rescue manager at Central Rescue Center South, told TV 2.
At 01:22 on Wednesday evening, HRS Sør declares that the fire has been extinguished.
According to the emergency manager, the fire broke out in a car. Smoke divers ensured the fire did not spread further, he said.
– The coastguards are on stand-by, as well as the rescue company on stand-by. They follow the boat. Two rescue helicopters are on the way with a team of rits. There are specially trained people who will help, Ingsøy tells TV 2.
Fjord Line CEO Brian Thorsted Hansen says it was a small fire and the site is now under control.
– It was a minor fire, and there were no injuries. Passengers have been informed of the fire and that we are sailing to Stavanger as planned, the CEO told TV 2.
In an earlier message, it was stated that the passenger ship would stop in Kristiansand following the fire. With the fire under control, the vessel will return to Stavanger as planned. The ship will go under its own engine to Stavanger.
