The company said so in a Friday morning post.

Bacher will be employed by the company until May 31 next year, but will leave his post as director already in a week.

He has worked for the company for 30 years and has been at the head of the group for more than eight of them. Bacher has served as CFO for the past two years.

– After almost 30 years of exciting challenges at Equinor, it’s a good time to consider new missions outside the company. I am grateful for the interesting assignments the company has given me over the years, says Lars Christian Bacher in a press release.

The outgoing director has, among other things, been responsible for international operations at Equinor.

He was also a platform manager on the Norne and Stafjord fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Bacher led work on the merger of Norsk Hydro and Equinor’s offshore facilities, and served as the company’s national operations manager in Canada until September 2012.

After Bacher’s departure, Svein Skeie takes over as interim CFO. Skeie has been with Equinor since 1996. Since then he has held several leadership positions in finance, business development and economic analysis.

Bjørn Asle Teige is a group administrator at Equinor.

Didn’t get the best job

Bjørn Asle Teige is shop steward of the Safe in Equinor group.

– I’m a little bit surprised. At the same time, there has been an internal competition to rise to the top of the company, but there is only room for one. Those who weren’t selected are probably a little disappointed, Teige says.

Earlier this fall, it was announced that Anders Opedal would take over as CEO on November 2, following the departure of Eldar Sætre. Lars Christian Bacher was in the final round and among the strongest candidates for the top job.

Teige gives Bacher a good word as he leaves the company.

– He had the financial work while there were problems, with low prices and difficult conditions. In that sense, he has done a good job of keeping the company afloat. I have a good impression of the work he has done, says Teige.

According to Teige, shop stewards have had fairly close contact with Bacher, both as CFO and in his previous jobs.

– We’ve had a lot to do with him in the past. We have always had an orderly and good relationship, he says.
