Media City Bergen engages in international cooperation to fight fake news

Project Origin’s Bruce MacCormack (left) and the BBC’s Judy Parnall officially named MCB – here by boss Helge O. Svela – as members ahead of Easter.

The media cluster will be part of the Origin project.

Media City Bergen (MCB) will be part of the international collaboration Project Origin, informs the Norwegian media cluster.

Project Origin is a collaboration between leading media and technology organizations that will work “to build trust in the media and fight misinformation.”

MCB CEO Helge O. Svela is delighted with this collaboration.

Will be the new president of Media City Bergen

– It is more important than ever to fight fake news and ensure that the public can trust the information they read and watch. We believe that Project Origin can play an important role in this, says Svela.

The Origin project was launched in 2018 by the BBC, in collaboration with CBC/Radio-Canada, the New York Times and Microsoft.

The collaborative project has, among other things, developed technology for fact-checking and secure image identification.

– Not everything wrong is done with bad intentions. Much is done as humor, but the consequences can be just as bad. Today, it’s nearly impossible to tell a photograph apart from something made with generative AI like Midjourney, Svela says.

– I am happy that the Medieklyngen, as part of the Origin project, are trying to make a difference in a world flooded with fake images and videos, he adds.
