Ragne Wiklund sets Norwegian record – Dagsavisen

The time is an improvement over Maren Haugli’s 16-plus-year record of over two seconds. Haugli set his best in the same hall in March 2006. Wiklund lowered his own personal best by almost three and a half seconds.

Wiklund already holds the Norwegian records for the 1,500 and 3,000 metres.

She had no chance on Dutch Irene Schouten’s lead time of 6.48.06, but clocked a time that held off Canadian favorites Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann in the last pair. Blondin had to settle for 3rd place in 6.54.81.

Wiklund leads the long distance World Cup.

Earlier Friday, Peder Kongshaug became the top Norwegian in the 1,500 meters with 1.43.59. He was exactly one second behind Dutch winner Kjeld Nuis and a quarter of a second behind third place.

Sander Eitrem was four hundredths of a second behind his teammate and finished fifth, while Allan Dahl Johansson was seventh at 1m43.87s.

Martine Ripsrud finished third in Group B in the 500 meters in 38.26.
