SUPPORT: Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Meqdad told the United Nations General Assembly on Monday that Syria supports Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Russia received rare support for the war in Ukraine at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday when the Syrian foreign minister took to the podium.

– Syria reiterates its position on Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and Russia’s right to defend and secure its own territory, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad told the UN.

Russia is a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and has assisted the Assad regime in Syria’s civil war since 2015. As a result, Syria has supported the Russian offensive in Ukraine for several months.
